The Quality Surveillance Programme (QSP) is the output of a taskforce review project, initiated in 2014, as part of NHS England’s Organisational Alignment Change Programme (OACP) / Specialised Commissioning Review. The aim of the review was to ensure all elements of quality are considered across the system and utilised effectively to inform clinically driven change and improvement.
The QSP is run by the Quality Surveillance Team (QST) and is part of the Quality, Transformation and Delivery Directorate.
The QST are aligned with the seven regional teams; North East and Yorkshire, North West, Midlands, East of England, London, South East and South West and support quality assurance, improvement and innovation both regionally and nationally.
With the introduction of the new operating model and in line with the Long-Term Plan, the QSP has expanded beyond surveillance and is engaged with the broader healthcare system to provide assurance on quality for commissioners and ultimately the local population for all specialised and local cancer services.
The Quality Surveillance Information System (QSIS) is the web-based portal that records and reports the information to support the QSP.
